Augmented space
Augmented Reality / Contested Airspace
Augmented reality as a struggle over who can annotate public space.
I do not think of augmented reality as simply a visual overlay. AR is a claim on public space. It asks who has the right to write on buildings, monuments, borders, galleries, landscapes and airspace when the writing is visible through a device or networked layer.
My AR and drone-related works continue concerns that began with SPRAWL and tactical media. They deal with contested geography, invisible inscription, virtual graffiti, public memory and the gamification of spatial experience.
In this work, the world is never just the world. It is layered, annotated, contested and authored. AR makes that condition literal.
