Confinement Spaces

Confinement Spaces began in the first months of COVID-19 restriction in the UAE. I scanned more than eighty spaces with my phone, beginning within the small radius of my apartment and later expanding as movement between neighborhoods, cities and cultural sites became possible again.

The scans were incomplete, faceted and ghostlike. They felt like records of a world that had partly disappeared. I began to think of them as existential indices: records of places inhabited under constraint, but also records of the emotional condition of waiting, fear, isolation and technological obsolescence.

The project includes video, prints, paintings and immersive environments. It is a kind of viral Lascaux: shadows of the world made in a time when physical presence itself had become unstable.
