8 Bits or Less and Pixel Grain come from my refusal to accept that better technology necessarily means better perception. These works use low-resolution cameras, watch cameras, compression, small images and degraded digital artifacts as formal and philosophical constraints.

Low resolution gives the viewer work to do. It makes the image porous. It returns ambiguity to the act of seeing. In a culture obsessed with seamlessness, fidelity and immersion, the pixel becomes a kind of resistance: a visible unit of mediation that refuses to disappear.

This body of work also connects to my tapestries. The enlarged pixel and the woven thread are related. Both are units of construction. Both make the image visible as something built.
