World Without End
A Middle Eastern VR world of tiny planets, architecture, memory and literary homage.
World Without End came out of my time in the UAE and my interest in making a virtual environment that was intimate rather than spectacular. It draws from The Little Prince, Persian and Arabic architectural forms, scanned spaces and the idea of a world held together by memory, travel and small acts of attention.
The project was developed for a public installation context, which meant thinking about VR as an encounter rather than a private device. The world needed to be navigable, poetic and legible for viewers coming to it from many backgrounds.
It is part of a larger sequence of works in which space is captured and re-authored: SPRAWL, AR projects, Googled Earth and Confinement Spaces all ask how mediated space becomes emotionally and politically charged.
