Intelligent Agent was a critical journal of new media art and culture, founded by Christiane Paul. I served as editor-in-chief for a decade, working with artists, theorists and curators to document a field that was changing faster than its institutions could keep up.

The editorial work was itself a form of media practice: deciding what counted, what was worth preserving, and how emerging work — net art, software art, virtual worlds, locative and mobile media — could be written about while it was still alive. Much of the criticism later collected in Variant Analyses grew out of this period.
